Matthew Swartz, DO
Primary Care Physician in Danville, CA

At Blackhawk Medical Group since 2022
As a Bay Area native I’m excited to return home and join Blackhawk Medical Group as a family practitioner. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia and my medical school at Nova Southeastern University, followed by my Family Medicine residency at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. I am proud to have served in the Navy for nearly a decade and enjoyed my experiences in the dive, flight and operational communities of the United States Marine Corps both at home and abroad. For the past 10 years I’ve worked as a Hospitalist throughout the United States specializing in rural, resource limited facilities managing a spectrum of disease from the critically ill to end of life cares. I advocate for patient autonomy and wholeheartedly believe in shared decision making. As we navigate your healthcare together, I hope to be able to give you choices and options so you can make informed decisions as to how your care is delivered and how I can best help you. My goal is to provide you the exceptional care you deserve in a warm, welcoming environment.
In addition to working at Blackhawk Medical Group, I am also currently a Global Health Fellow at the University of California San Francisco and pursuing my Master’s Degree in Public Health. Combining my background in austere medicine with my interest in community health, I hope to support the development of family medicine and the delivery of primary care in under-resourced areas both domestically and internationally. Outside of medicine I’m is an avid hiker and mountaineer, having participated in expeditions to areas such as Nepal, New Zealand, Africa and South America.
